Adland’s Fears Realized: Mondelez Piggybacks on P&G’s Payment Terms

A week after the biggest advertiser in the world — Procter & Gamble — announced it would stretch the time it takes to pay agencies to 75 days, packaged-goods giant Mondelez has gone a step further, instituting 120-day payment terms.

Execs across adland are decrying the practice, saying it verges on unethical. But they also say they feel helpless going up against such big players who wield massive ad budgets and work with dozens of agencies.

Shops may want to begin holding frank discussions with clients, however, given more and more marketers are reexamining the length of time they have to pay vendors. From advertisers’ perspective, it’s all about maintaining a competitive advantage or not allowing a competitor to gain one.

Webpick of the Week – Rijks Museum

What started as an art-making pop up in a number of Dutch department stores, later developed into Rijksstudio, the impressively remixable online collection of 125,000 Dutch masterpieces housed within the beautiful main site of Rijks Museum.

In the pop-ups, special teams would assist visitors in making their own creations using images from the collection with online tools and on-site equipment such as textile printers and laser cutters. Now these high-resolution images are available on the web, with visitors encouraged to download, edit, print and make their own art work—from iPhone cases and knitted fabrics to t-shirts and bikes. Orders can be fulfilled by print-on-demand businesses, from laser cutters to 3D printers.

The responsive site is optimised for use on the iPad, and has a full-screen mode with the ability to zoom in to reveal the tiniest details of the artwork. With a Rijksstudio account, users can cut details from very large pictures and save these images in thier own collections. The search feature is very comprehensive, taking advantage of all the complex relations and data structures of a massive art collection. It’s quite amazing that all this functionality also works on your mobile device!
